Mt. Adams

Saturday Aug 14th - Mt Adams!!

The day started early, 3am to meet my friend by 4am. Trailhead by 6:30am, except there was a giant tree fallen across the road...

Luckily, just as I was outnumbered, and it was decided we would just start the hike from the tree (adding 4mi, 1400ft gain one way to the already 6mi, 6600ft gain) a truck came along with a chain saw and we were at the trail head (5600 ft) by 7am. The hike begins, the wind picks up... it was literally blowing me over. My friend E and I are asking "how much wind is too much wind?" but this is concerning...

3 hours later we are at the "Lunch Counter" a flat spot at approx 9000ft. Wind died down. Now the grueling trek begins up Lunch Counter up to Pikers Peak which is at 11,6000ft. Another 3 hours... We get to the false summit and see...

More summit... another hour later and we make it. At last.

Top of Mt. Adams at 12,200ft with St. Helens in the background. Some wind at the summit. Maybe 60 degrees? Trying to stay warm, and funny, Portland is having a heat wave with 100 degree temps and I can barely stay warm.
