Another crazy weekend...

Mountaineering school continues. This weekend I was outside the Dalles, first hiking 12 miles on a double hike - Tom McCall and then Rattlesnake Ridge. Luckily no rattlesnakes, but instead TICKS!! I was too paranoid and was not bitten, but some of the others were... ick!!

Then camped overnight at Maryhill Park. Odd little site, you aren't allowed to camp on the grass, only on the designated gravel platforms?! WTF? Didn't feel like camping.

Next day off to Horsethief Butte for our outdoor climb session. Really fun location and I would like to go back sometime. The weather was wonderful and it was nice to climb all day, almost like a guided trip. The Assistants set up the route, and did all the takedown. There were several groups there, so you got to walk around and "shop" all the ropes and climb continuously. Felt like a rock star!! It was kind of old hat, I think my friends would have laughed at the more challenging routes set up. It was all pretty easy. Thanks Stoneworks buddies, you made me look really good on Sunday!!

Here I am on one of the "harder" routes, a fun chimney in the rock. Really a fun day though.

Next weekend will be rough. Hike up to Illumination Saddle on Hood, in the snow. First time with crampons and ice axe. And we work on Ice arrest, roping up for snow travel, etc. BUT I get to stay overnight at the lodge. Should be fun!!
